South Park Bridge

I think of this as the main symbol of my neighborhood. It’s a cool old bridge that I cross on my commute every morning. It’s getting old however and it is going to need a lot of repairs…as you can see the repair crews where working on it this evening.

And the winner is…

Cool brown shoes…Jolene and Dalene won out with their decision for this pair of stylish new loafers. Thanks to everybody that played in the great shoe decision game.

Kevin’s little boy was sick today which means no Kevin at work. Its days like these when I really appreciate having Kevin as a co-working.

More war stories for the BLOG! Attached are a couple of pictures of a Boeing built B-17G. This model is an exact replica of the one our friends; 1st Lt. Ike Alhadeff was piloting on August 6th 1944 when he was shot down on a mission to Brandenburg, Germany. It was fun doing some of the research to get the correct tail number and squadron and bomb group markings. The insignia on the stand that looks like a bird carrying a bomb is the for the 600th Squadron - Ike's. The lower insignia is for the 398th Bomb Group. After ordering it took nearly seven months to get it. They are made by hand somewhere in the Philippines.

1703 Five M-48 tanks (long since out moded) firing all weapons, 1716 dad as a leader of "trained killers", 1713 was a simulated assault with live fire utilizing tanks and infantry. I was the on-the-ground infantry platoon leader on the exercise may times. It was very hot, dusty and noisy on warm afternoons in the summers of Georgia and yes you could hear the crack of machine gun bullets going by on our flanks - very close to overhead

Mad Minute Described

As part of the demonstration the defense fire was added as the "enemy" advanced into the company's position. Finally every weapon was fired non-stop for one minute. It was very impressive and I might add a bit noisy. In addition to the infantry small arms you had the addition of tank, mortar and artillery fire along with simulated mine detonations. The sobering part of this is that I would guess many American soldiers actually fought their way through fire like this on the beaches at Normandy and the south pacific. In machine guns every fifth round is a tracer.

Empty Plate...Full?

Today I fasted. Pastor Paul challenged us to fast, therefore I did. I have not done it since college and I have forgotten how hard it is to do. Today was full of struggles and yet I was able to keep centered throughout it. Can I credit it to fasting?...only time will tell when I try it again next week.

StarBlazers

I picked up a couple of DVD’s at Fry’s this week of StarBlazers. I loved this show as a kid…every week day at 7am. Believe it or not this cartoon really stands the test of time. It was entertaining as a kid and it’s still great as an adult.

Scar

Poor old Black Dog…She had some surgery done to her head this last week. We have a great Vet and as you can see she has done a great job of stitching her up. The beauty of being a dog is that whatever scar is left behind…in the end, it’s all covered up by fur.

Childhood Mentors

Chief Chuck and Mrs. Chief are in town visiting my parents and Mom invited us over to have dinner with them last night. For those of you that don’t know, Chief and Mrs. Chief ran a christian camp for boys ("Young Men") in upstate New York. Chief was really the first person to introduce Noah and Moses to me during his morning camp sermons, he really did a good job of embodying them…and every time I think of Noah or Moses I think of them as Chief. Now he might not like that…but as we learned last night we all have to deal.

Generations

I thought it was time to play the baby card. Here is Paul’s Mom holding his brand new nephew. I typically stay away form the baby pictures, however in this case I could not resist. I mean look at them, how could ya not!

The Kidney Kompound

Had Dinner with Mom and Dad on Thursday night; I could not resist taking a picture of them in thier native element. I know they had the double lounge chairs made custom for them…But we (Jolene and I) got Big Blue (The old lounge chair) out of it; a strategic mistake on there behalf.

Tonight was the Acts 13 mininstry leaders meeting...and it was at our house. Julie and Jolene were waiting for people to show up so I caught this moment for Blog purposes.

Here is Chris in his element on Sunday morning. Playing on his guitar…did I say playing? I meant jamming on his guitar, worshipping and in general having a goodtime. So you may ask what is the explanation for the goofy smile? My theory…no crazy junior highers around.

Black 1998 m3 super fast BMW...need I say more. What a great shot of Dalene. Its about time I got one of her up. She took us out last night to show us how the other half lives.

Old Photo with a Future Twist

Yes, I know it looks like one of those “80’s” pictures that you would see on Napoleon Dynamite “The picture within a picture”. However, I am continuing to evolve my Photoshop skills…I promise the next one will be better. Besides, that picture of Martha as a little girl is priceless. Dad should have been a professional photographer.

Best in Show...Well, our Best in Show!

Chava is a strange dog or perhaps brilliant. She hates kibble; I mean she really hates kibble. We have a difficult time getting her to eat her food. But really who would want to eat kibble day in and day out. But I had her in my sights this morning with a camera…this made her very nervous and she finished her kibble real fast.

BTW for the first time in history yesterday a Colored Bull Terrier won Best in Show!

Mid Week Meeting

Lindsey and Steven arrived early for our bi-weekly cultural development team meeting. You know what that means…ample Blog material. I am not sure what the Dark splotch over Jolene is? Ahhhh technology so unperdictable.

Quiet Sunday

Quiet Sunday night...just the way I like it. Jolene and I beat The Xbox Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and decided to chill for the rest of the evening and wait for Dalene's late flight to come in. Not everybody knows this but Tzeidel has blue eyes.

Night at the Hurricane

This evening we were invited to an exclusive engagement at the new resturant The Hurricane. Nah…not really. It was Jen and Seng’s Christmas gift to all of their close church friends. The food was so good I am going to be rounder then usual for the next week.

The Jolene Winterscape Theme! How can you go wrong winter and Jolene? Although I am guessing that Jolene would like it to be the Jolene Summer Theme. Don’t worry Jolene; spring and summer are just around the corner…and so are the themes.

Wednesday Mornings

To the naked eye this is a group of feet circled around an old church carpet; in reality its Wednesday morning prayer group. I know it seems a bit staged but nobody was really interested in having their pictures taken at 6am. Can you guess whose feet these are? And for the more spiritual can you guess what we were praying?

New Shoes

I never really cared for these shoes…they never fit right, they smell and according to some they are ugly. Its time for a change! I am willing to go with any suggestion you guys might have to offer. Here are the rules for the great shoe challenge. Submit the shoe style (via email or blog) that I should wear and Jolene will pick her favorite regardless of how I feel about them.

Gamer Wife

After further review of this weekends photos one really needed more analysis. If only more husbands were dedicated to teaching their wives the finer points of MarioKart Double Dash.

Birch Bay

I searched for a story picture all weekend long and I think I found it. It’s clear and simple. Spending the weekend with close friends is something to value and cherish and not something to be taken for granted. The group at Birch Bay Winter 2006.

As always Thursday night Bible Study was a success. Some sharing and caring…ummmm is it me or is Steve getting smaller.

I am still reviewing the Chicago pictures. This was taken while Dad and I will we were waiting for our flight to Chi town.

In what was a media circus last night, Jolene’s birthday was made complete with the appearance of the HBMW (Happy Birthday Meal Worm). Mr. HBMW was in rare form last night when he was placed on Jolene’s vanilla ice cream desert. Happy Birthday Jolene!
